Basketball

Basketball is a contact sport which is played on a rectangular court. Basketball is a team sport with 5 players on each side. The main objective of the game is to throw the ball into the basket which is 18inches (46cm) in diameter and 10 feet tall. The basket is mounted to a board at both ends of the court.

The game was invented back in 1891 by Dr. James Naismith. James was the first basketball coach of Kansas Jayhawks.

The game has many ways to show off your skills. Some of them include --- Shooting, Passing, dribbling, ball-handling and rebounding. The skill which is very famous is known as dunking. In this skill, the player jumps up towards the hoop and dunks the ball in the basket.

Rules of Basketball:-

The game is played in four quarters of 10 minutes each. The teams exchange the baskets for each half. 15 minutes are allowed for half-time. Five players from each team should be on the court. Substitution are rolling but can only be performed if the play is stopped.

Bother men's and women's team have a uniforms/Jerseys  with a pair of shorts. Numbers on both front and back of the jersey and also on the front of shorts.

Coaches can request clock-stoppages for a short meeting with the players to discuss the strategy, they are limited. The meetings do no last more than a minute.

Officials :-

The games are controlled and maintsined by officials also known as referees. There are mostly 2 of them, excluding table referees. The referees are responsible to keep track of the score, maintaining discipline on the court and to take decisions.
